last weekend stacie, leslie, amanda and i went to barcelona! it was wonderful. the weather was amazing and it was between 60-70 degrees every day. we walked down the ramblas a lot and went to the water and shopped at the markets. we made friends with a very nice australian girl named elise who was staying in our hostel and we went to different historical sites and churches, including the sagreda familia. it was so beautiful! there were lots of palm trees and delicious tapas and good sangria. the last day we sat outside a little café having churros with hot chocolate (the special spanish kind) and it was sunny and we were next to a park and the sagreda familia and i swear it was the most beautiful, peaceful moment ever. the journey home was long but we made it back in one piece.
yesterday jenny and triona took a bunch of us to oxford. it was gorgeous, but chilly. the entire town was so quaint it looked like a movie set, the buildings were old but lovely. we started off by "punting," which is basically just sitting in little boats and one person pushes the boat along with a long metal pole. we floated down the river for about 45 minutes while derek steered, and we passed fields and parks with ducks and swans and saw the college and beautiful big buildings. it was sunny and so nice! afterwards we ate lunch at the king's arms and shopped a bit and then went to evensong at the christchurch of oxford. liz and amanda got their cameras snatched away by a horrible guard who got mad at us for taking pictures of places from the harry potter movies. but the night was nice and some of us came back on the bus and i fell asleep early.
today a few of us went to have high tea at triona's house, which was far away, but worth the trip. she lives in a nice victorian house decorated with lots of adorable furnishings and a special room just for tea. from the sitting room you could see her yard, through which little foxes kept running. we were all dressed up and she had some of her friends over and we all sat and had lots of tea and snacks and little cakes. it was very nice and we stayed for quite a long time before coming back here, which brings me up to now.
the weeks have been going by too quickly! i am loving it here and am just so happy. tommy gets here friday, which will be so nice, and caroline, cathy, rachel, mom and judy are soon to follow. things are wonderful! i miss everyone!
