this week my flatmates and i made the amazing discovery of a pub called "ye olde cheshire cheese," which i plan on bringing everyone who visits me to. it's so cozy and dark and old and has a fireplace (seen at left) and is affordable and wonderful! so to all those who are coming here, expect at least one night spent at the cheese. besides that i haven't been doing a lot; i've gone to a few galleries this week and am trying to book flights to paris for the next couple of weekends.
i got to write my second poem for jenny's class. our assignment was to write an "ecphrastic" poem, which entails basically choosing a work of art from the british museum and writing about it. since the british museum contains mostly artifacts and not art, i wrote my piece about a little old clock, which you can see here. i won't put up the poem right now but basically i had a lot of fun with it and hope we get to keep writing poetry!
it's been very rainy this week and there was a flood warning today, and also i'm out of money, but it's still been so much fun. tommy visits in just a few short weeks and then cathy and rachel and possibly my mom and aunt and possibly even my dear caroline might come as well! i feel like a different person from last semester, although i know that sounds pretty ridiculous. but lately it's hard for me not to feel happy and grateful for being here , especially since everyone has been telling me how freezing it is in connecticut right now. but i'm just really content with my roommates and the little amount of stuff i brought with me and the tiny warm pubs i get to sit in and the gardens and churches and statues and bookstores and everything around me. i can't wait to share it with my friends and i can't wait to keep feeling this way. but regardless of that, i love and miss you all! good luck to all those starting classes tomorrow, just think of how close springtime is...
